A tradition of learning, competition and sportsmanship.
LOUYAA, which stands for Linganore Oakdale Urbana Youth Athletic Association, is one of the largest youth recreational organizations in central Maryland. It was incorporated in 1978 as “Linganore Area Youth Athletic Association” (LAYAA), serving athletes feeding into Linganore High School.
Today, LOUYAA offers 14 sports and serves more than 2,700 families. The majority of participating athletes live in southeastern Frederick County and feed into Linganore, Urbana and Oakdale high schools.
It’s all for the kids.
As a 501c(3), LOUYAA is a wholly not-for-profit organization. Moreover, its Board of Directors, sports commissioners, and coaches volunteer their time. Parents of participants also volunteer their time for everything from concession sales to field maintenance to fundraising.
LOUYAA sports teams belong to many of central Maryland’s most popular and competitive leagues.
LOUYAA’s 13-member Board of Directors meet twice monthly to approve sport budgets, create/amend organization policies/programs and address a myriad of other LOUYAA business items. The staggered Board terms are two years, with elections held every six months for open seats.
LOUYAA members interested in serving on the Board are encouraged to submit a letter of candidacy that includes:
- Contact information
- LOUYAA involvement, including childrens’ names, ages and sports
- Statement about why you want to serve on the Board
Candidates should be committed to attend Board meetings and work toward improving the organization.
