Basketball
Winter 2017-2018
With the upcoming season quickly approaching LOUYAA Basketball is pleased to announce a restructuring of our intramural program offerings. Our overall goal continues to center around creating a variety of competitive opportunities for our participants. The biggest change this year can be found in our intramural program and is outlined below.
Please consider volunteering your time as a coach or league director. The commitment is minimal and the reward is great. You do not need to be an expert you just need a willingness to try. The success of our program depends on volunteers. It does not happen often but in the event we do not get enough coaches for a particular league we may be forced to limit enrollment and/or offerings.
Your child must be registered prior to any of the tryout or evaluation events. After reviewing the information below please feel free to forward questions to the commissioner (Arnie McGaha) at basketball@louyaasports.org.

Tier 2- LOUYAA Select (teams will compete in the MYBA league)
LOUYAA Select is the next level of basketball offered and includes a tryout process. As a general rule this option is for our stronger intramural level players as well as those players who are borderline Mid Maryland level but were not selected. LOUYAA Select teams compete in the Monocacy Youth Basketball Association’s (MYBA) Division 1 league. It is available for BOYS only as MYBA does not offer Division 1 for girls programs. LOUYAA will only enter a girls team in MYBA if we are unable to form our own ‘in-house’ league of at least four (4) teams.
LOUYAA Select teams will be formed at the U10, U12, and U14 levels (boys) and U14 (girls). Eligibility for MYBA is based on your child’s age as of September 1st. He/She must be younger than the league title as of September 1st, i.e. if a player is 10 years old on or before September 1st, they must play in the U12 league, etc. There is no school district restriction with regard to these teams.
* U10 Boys tryouts- Oct 23, 6:00-7:30 @ Oakdale Middle & Oct 25, 7:00-8:30 @ New Market Middle
U12 Boys tryouts- Oct 25, 7:30-9:00 @ Oakdale Middle & Oct 27, 5:30-7:00 @ Oakdale Middle
